Ian played professional soccer
for sixteen years. He began as a youth playing for
Manchester United and the Blackburn Rovers team in England.
In addition, he was also selected to play on England’s
Junior National team at the age of 15. His favorite
highlight was scoring a penalty for England against Holland
in front of 100,000 spectators at Wembley Stadium. He went
on to sign his first professional contract with Liverpool
F.C. of the English Premier League at the age of 16 and
continued to play for them for four years. |
|
Ian came to the United States
to play for Fort Lauderdale and Miami of the North American
Soccer League (NASL). After a few seasons, he signed on to
the Wichita Wings of the Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL)
and played indoor for the next ten years. This period
included stints with the Detroit Rockers, Detroit Neon, and
the Detroit Safari. He suffered ligament damage while
playing for the Detroit Safari and was asked to become
Interim Head Coach for the remainder of the season. Although
he played many years as a professional soccer player, Ian
enjoys coaching youth soccer just as much as he enjoyed
playing professionally. |

ANDY CHAPMAN - DIRECTOR OF
COACHING / 248-867-2347 |
|
Andy played professional soccer
for twenty-three years. He started his career with Arsenal
of the English Premier League at age 16 and he turned pro
the following year. He came to the United States in 1978 to
play for the California Sunshine of the American Soccer
League (ASL) before moving on to play for the Detroit
Express. This proved to be a great move as the Express won
the Championship in 1982, Andy was named MVP of the league,
and he met his future wife, Patti. |
|
Andy played indoor for Wichita,
Baltimore, and Cleveland in the Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL)
for 12 seasons. In 1990, he became player-coach of the
Detroit Rockers of the National Professional Soccer League (NPSL)
for four seasons, and later with the Detroit Neon for three
seasons. Andy finished his career with 307 MISL goals, a
tally which ranks 8th all time. In 2000 he came out of
retirement to play for the Detroit Rockers in their last
games of the season, making him one of only two players to
play in four different decades. (You can also see Andy’s
jersey on display in the Soccer Hall of Fame, in New York
State) Andy has coached youth soccer since 1978, but given
his exposure as a professional player, he thought long and
hard before attaching his name and reputation to a youth
soccer club. He wanted to ensure he had an active voice in
the Club's direction and not have it be controlled by a
"third party". His coaching philosophy has always remained
the same: “Build players, not teams. If you build the
player, the teams will build themselves”. |
