Entry Level Referee Policy Effective September 1, 2007 Individuals wishing to become certified as a USSF soccer referee in Michigan must attend an entry-level referee course. A referee candidate must receive a minimum of 8 hours of instruction and pass a written exam. The individual will then be certified as a Grade 9 Referee. A Grade 9 referee is certified to be a referee or an assistant referee in any sanctioned game age 12 and below. They can be an assistant referee on recreational games for ages 13 and 14. A new referee must remain at that level for a minimum of one (1) season. After one season (spring or fall) of being a grade 9 referee, an individual may elect to take a Bridge Class, providing he/she is 14 years of age on the date of the first class. The Bridge Class is a minimum of 8 hours and will result in an upgrade to a Grade 8 referee. |
